Finally... finished....
I saw this picture on Steve's old podcollective site many many years ago and in my naivity and newbie-ness asked him if I could have the high res black and whites. Steve said, no... :)
Then about 2 years ago he sent them to me in a batch of old high res files. I was floored. The original file is a poster 3 feet wide and 2 feet high and the level of detail in the black and whites is stunning. I sat and looked at it, and put it away and looked at it again and so on, all the while thinking how'd I'd tackle the colours.
Then last January I saw "Avatar" and was motivated to finally give this a go. I thought I'd use sunset colours of purples and oranges and the like and so started flatting it. The flats alone took me over a week to do.
So I started to colour it but after almost 2 weeks of effort I'd done nothing but the people and some of the trees. (it's that detailed in parts) and at that point I had to admit to myself that it sucked.... it was the sucky mcsuck from suckville in the State of Suck.
So ditching everything that I'd colored so far I went back to Steve's version and realised that that was the best colour scheme for it after all. So, after everything this just becomes a study in colour combinations and technique and I admit freely that I've copied Steve's colours which can be seen here --> http://spherco.deviantart.com/art/Siege-of-Avalon-108247828 but that's ok because I know Steve won't mind, right Steve?(... umm... Steve...? Mate...? :D ...) There's actually only about 6 separate colours in the whole thing, the rest is layer modes and blending technique!
So now, over 6 weeks later, here it is... ta-dahhh... *phew*
Now onto something else... something... simple... I think... :P
