The transcontinental flight went fine, but it was the flight from NY to VA that was trying to be all dramatic with me. Before I even got on the plane some lady was telling me that I had to have my backpack tagged because it was too large to take onboard. I explained to her that it was actually two bags (regular backpack inside) but she wouldn't listen.
So when I left the ramp into the open air (as the ramp didn't lead directly into the plane) I placed the book I was reading on the ground to mess with my bags. A strong wind blew the book open and all my important papers (itinerary [which I still need to get my return tickets], leave form, etc.) that I kept inside blew away. I gave a chase that would put Speedy Gonzales to shame, but in doing so I inadvertently dropped my cell phone, which turned out to be very loosely attached to my hip. And then someone driving one of those luggage buggies they have on the tarmac there ran right over it. Naturally the phone at home is disconnected so then I had to use public phones to call anyone.
Then when the flight was over and I went to pick up my bags, I only got one of the two. Naturally the second bag is the one that has all the souvenirs and my suit for the reunion in it and of course instead of accompanying me it went to Boston instead.
And then yesterday I just got done getting my car out of storage and got a new state inspection and updated the tags. I also got a loaner phone until my new one is mailed to me.
Today I got the luggage back, got the internet on my laptop again, and visited a family member who's in the area. Tomorrow, the 1st, I will be driving over to Roanoke, which is 4 hours away on the other side of the state. I will spend the remainder of my vacation there until it's time to return to Virginia Beach to fly back.
