I see the fall of the Sev Board as a result of two things. First, the rise of journals, blogs, and the like have made forums of all sorts much less popular as an outlet for expression. Second, we're all growing older, and, typically, that means less time available to us to do things we once loved. Third, there is a gulf between the SB and Sev itself that did not used to exist. So we don't have the influx of new members that we used to. Also, with Sci-Fi itself declining, Sev has declined in popularity.
So it's a combination of factors.
