I've the reflex too, on both ears
Somehow I can suppress the coughing, but then I start sneezing.
It only happens if I stick the Q-tip deep enough though, and twist it around. So I don't clean that deep on a daily basis.

It's really annoying because when you cough or sneeze you move your head and the Q-tip can jam into the side of the ear canal which can be painful, actually.
