Impressions of Italy
Rome:

Noisy
crowded
dirty
sirens everywhere - they just LOVE to use their siren!
expensive at tourist traps
cheap food at supermarkets
expensive ristorante's - avoid these
macca's is cheap though! - we ate a lot of maccas.... :+/
shoes!!!!!!!!! (wife's idea that one)
nice clothes
lotsa walking
idiot roman drivers - they'll park anywhere. crossing the road is a constant game of chicken
nice ancient sites though
lovely hotel - raffaello (via urbana) - nice and clean and be sure to ask for room 502 or 506 if you can get them - you get a terrace equal to the size of the room all to yourself!!! - for no extra cost! lovely breakfast as well.

Pisa:

smelt of open sewage the day that we were there
the tower hasn't fallen over yet
nice and quiet - very few sirens!
easy to walk around
tourist stalls look like side-show alley near the tower
food's ok

Venice:

EXPENSIVE!!!!!!! - 28 euros for 2 people on a day pass for a water-bus ticket. Or 6.50 euros for a one way ticket - RIP OFF!
same with the shops - $$$$$$$ We could barely afford to window shop...
cost 10 euros for lunch too
a complete maze to walk around
lovely to look at, very pretty.
did I mention it was EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!...?

Florence:

nice city
pretty
easy to walk around
narrow footpaths - too narrow for the volume of pedestrians
old medieval part of town is nice
touristy bits are too expensive and they make you line up for too long as all the organised tour groups go in first ahead of single door tickets, and THEN they don't let you take photos once inside!!!
hotel wasn't as nice - (caravaggio) paper thin walls, noisy floors (tiles everywhere) and shit-head of a concierge (raisa had an argumentt with him because we wanted to leave a day early that involved loud yelling in the foyer in front of the germans...! we left early anyway and defied him to charge us the extra pre-booked day! - he didn't), nice breakfast cereal though...
florence got boring after 6 days there... 3 or 4 days would be enough.

Flying Emirates to get there:

recommended!
nice seat/leg room even in economy for 6ft me
heaps of movies to watch on your screen - I saw Indiana Jones 4, Hancock, Wall-E, Iron Man, The day the earth stood still, National Treasure 2 and still had time for 3 episodes of "Rome" from that HBO series... and some games plus sleeping and eating - a 17 hour flight gives you heaps of time for that sort of thing!
nice food on the flights.

cheers
Sean

I colour stuff...
