We had a story yesterday. A Manx woman sold her house on the island, put the money plus her life savings into Kaupthing, Singer & Friedlander. Then she travelled to Yorkshire hoping to buy a house there.
Only now she, uh, has no money to buy one with. Oh dear. Iirc Tynwald were making some sort of promise yesterday that they would be helping Manx residents - but of course she's no longer resident!
(We also had a guy, on the day of the collapse, who we were all commenting looked like he had just stepped off a yacht in St Tropez. Sure enough, when we heard him speak it turned out he was from Gibraltor. That morning the bank hadn't been answering his calls so he flew into the Isle of Man (where there's a branch). Jeeeez. Oh to have that sort of money to lose!)
