j walking is apparently illegal in some (all?) of America. So I found it rather funny that when I was studying in Germany, some Americans I knew were (loudly, in public) mocking the Germans who would wait patiently for the pedestrian light to turn green even when it was clear to cross. I'm never sure whether or not to cross without the light in Germany. I mean, I was once nearly run over there when I was crossing on a green man :0P So I don't really have a strong motivation to obey the law ;0) Also, when Guido and I were on holiday in Berlin last year I bought the geekiest postcard ever - pedestrian crossing lights around the world! I'd fallen utterly in love with the Ampelmänchen you see ;0) I was so tempted to buy the pasta :0D
