If a thread got so long that it was making browsers scroll, snip the end off so that people can still post but it doesn't bork the board. You could keep track of new replies by looking at the little number which showed how many replies there were.
I don't know if it was a designed function or just that it was easier to code "delete post from the index" than "delete post altogether" and that practice sprung up as a result.
The point is that I now *can't* do that. If I delete a post, it's gone altogether. So if you wouldn't mind continuing your kittenwar as another subthread in reply to this, that would be really appreciated. This is actually the second thread with a width problem right now, but the other one is very near to falling off the bottom. So I'm hoping to stop this one before it goes too far. Hence using very short post titles ;0)
