IP tracking isn't reliable
Not for end-users anyways. You need access to other sources that you simply don't have, nor should have.

Most IP trackers contain a list of numbers and locations that are somewhat accurate. For example, my IP address will trace to Leeuwarden, the city I live in, but points to a telephone exchange building on the other end of town.

My connection is a static one, so if you've got my IP address, you can find my internet provider. My internet provider knows my IP address and my real address. They can then tell you where I live, exactly.

There is a problem though. Proxy servers. These are computers on the internet that serve as in-betweens for users of the proxy server. I could use a proxy server somewhere in Minnesota to browse webpages and interact on forums, and people would see the IP address of the proxy, not of my actual connection.

If the proxy server keeps a log, it is possible to trace my activities on the internet back through the proxy. But then you'd need to get access to that log.

Problem is there are anonimizers on the internet. These are collections of proxy servers spread across the world. By means of magic they allow a user to browse the internet and interact with forums, but they use a random proxy server in the collection for everything the user wants to visit or post. Usually such an anonimizing proxy server will not keep logs. Therefore it is near-impossible to trace such a user.

And yes, for the techieminded, some of these anonimizers employ sophisticated MAC address and IP address spoofing methods as well as TCP/IP fingerprint masquerading and browser ID faking, making it virtually impossible to find them on the internet.

Ofcourse, FBI people reading this will probably go "yeah but we've got access to the routersystems and can trace users more directly so haha" or something similar.

If however I misunderstood and you simply mean to find your own public IP address then it is found by going to google and searching for "what is my ip address" and then simply pick the first result.
