When an optical drives develops focusing problems, and starts to take about a minute before it finally 'sees' the disc you just put into the drive.. then it's past it. It happens quite regularly simply because of the poor construction of these drives. The process of creating a high precision laser reading system for these drives has been revised so much that it reaches the point where it cannot be made any cheaper or any more efficient. Durability usually suffers when the first two factors come into play. You could try other discs to see if it is just with the one disc that you are having problems, or with other discs. That way you can determine if it's the drive or the disc at fault.
