Ok so the guy with the unprotected wireless internet in our street finally wised up and realised that probably half the street was tapping into his connection and getting free internet as a result. Anyway, the netgear connection still connects but doesn't allow us to actually download anything anymore..
So we bit the bullet and shopped around for a wireless net provider. Digging past all the smoke and mirrors or various plans we realised that most can only offer us ADSL1 at shitty costs but Bigpond which is the net service of Telstra the gov't phone provider here in Oz could (supposedly) give us ADSL2+ with a 100Gb DL/UL (shaped when exceeded + no extra charges ) limit and phone bundle
So we duly signed up 3 Friday's ago.... and have been waiting for the actual connection ever since.
The wirelesss modem turned up ok but Telstra are having immense problems actually connecting us to the big wide world. They can't seem to "provision" the service (connect us to the outside world - the computers connect to the modem just fine though but nothing gets out) and in the process have killed our entire phone line/account not once but twice!!!!
They promised all would be ok by Thursday last, then yesterday, at which point they killed our entire phone line for the second time, and now the promise is Wednesday of next week!!!
All this means that I haven't been able to post to the sevboard as the Education Dept. blocks anything that has 'space' in the URL figuring it must be myspace related, and I can't find a proxy service that a) isn't already blocked by the edu dept. and b) allows me to post stuff as a well as read stuff.
Right now the 3 of us are down at the local McDonalds using the wifi there and hoping we don't get hacked... :+P
